PROJECT STATEMENT

Tanim Natin: a vertical garden project aims to provide an effective solution to a critical problem Lower Tipolo Homeowners Association Inc (LTHAI) residents suffer from, which is insufficient amount of open spaces, refraining them from having a progressive sustenance for their livelihood and needs. Vertical gardening is an example of effective crop production under limited space, hence, a viable solution to the problem. In line with this, the proposed project is a vital opportunity for the residents of LTHAI to attain a more sustainable livelihood in adjusting to the community’s limited resources in the form of open areas/land, all the while touching upon the feasibility of the gardening project itself, making this endeavor an environmentally-friendly and practical project for the residents of the said community. The project is also an example of sustainable architecture in the sense that the community’s needs are assessed and with a critical question on how to effectively cater to them through proposing perceptive designs using the available technologies and resources, taking into consideration the feasibility of the project and the potential hazards of the project to the people and the environment. The project outlines the design of a vertical planter which utilizes wire and water bottles as the main building materials. The output is a stackable modular vertical farm that allows for growing of plants of leafy vegetables. The vertical planter is passively kept hydrated using the principles of gravity and capillary action which eliminates the need for electricity. Upon the active operation of this project, it is believed that most households inside the community would have a passive or little to active source of livelihood, thus helping them increase their household income without wasting too much of their time, which could be used for their other jobs or necessities. This project also aligns with environmental conservation as the production of the garden mainly focuses on reusable or recyclable materials which could be acquired from the sari-sari stores inside the community. Following this kind of production helps promote environmental management providing the residents insights on how to help preserve nature.
