PROJECT STATEMENT
Rapid urbanization brings with it increasing urban populations and decreasing areas allocated for food, leading most people to rely on transportation from rural producers. Samahang Bukluran Project Inc. (SBPI) is one among many communities that struggle for land tenure. Due to the increased unemployment brought by COVID-19 pandemic, sustaining their financial needs in acquiring such rights has not been easy. With that, they need assistance on which they can generate income and achieve their goals with their land. The researchers of this project intend to address SBPI’s concern by implementing and designing an urban plot garden space. There will be a focus group discussion where each participating member of the community will share their insights. This can help in acquiring the information needed, including their past experiences and knowledge regarding the said project. For this project, the researchers intend to implement the Companion Vegetable Planting method, as this type of gardening includes common plants, uses less pesticides, and possesses high yield of produce. It is expected that with this project, the SBPI community can have an additional income to sustain their needs, the neighboring households can acquire cheap but fresh vegetables, and the local food shortage will decrease.
